pop culture: Gloria Swanson's Strange Discoverymystery saucer - jan. 1960In 1960, it was a dark and stormy night when actress Gloria Swanson stumbled upon a miraculous structure in the dark. It seemed to be an alien spacecraft, landed at the edge of Griffith Park. She called he friends immediately, excited to share this amazing discovery. It took almost a full day to realize that not only was the spacecraft made of wood, but it had no mechanical workings and no means of momentum. A short while later a couple living nearby revealed the ship to be a prop from a film that had been shooting a few months back. The Los Angeles Times published a story about it, wagging a finger at Swanson for what seemed to be a lame publicity stunt. |
